Cluster 1 aims to improve and protect the health and well-being of citizens of all ages by generating new knowledge, developing innovative solutions and integrating a gender perspective where relevant to prevent, diagnose, monitor, treat and cure diseases.

Additional objectives include developing health technologies, mitigating health risks, protecting populations and promoting good health and well-being in general and in the workplace.

Finally, this cluster seeks to enhance the cost-effectiveness, equity and sustainability of public health systems, address poverty-related diseases and empower patients through participation and self-management.
