Research Calls from the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council

Established in 2018, the Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council is a distinguished entity leading advanced research and global collaborative innovation, bringing together prominent national and international figures from across government, industry and academia.

Below are the four latest calls for projects, along with relevant details.

Eligibility criterion: the lead principal investigator (PI) must be affiliated with an approved submitting institution in Qatar.

Interested faculty should contact the Manager, International Projects or the Research Facilitator, International Initiatives no later than February 26, 2025. PIs will be required to complete a CU Research Approval Form with departmental, faculty and research security approvals before institutional support is provided.

Climate Change and Environment Call (2nd Cycle)

In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the QRDI Council is pleased to announce the launch of the second cycle of the Climate Change and Environment Call (CCEC). The research priority areas for this cycle are:

Biodiversity conservation
Climate change, impact and resilience
Environmental quality and monitoring

Each award is up to QAR 547,500 per year for up to two years.

Modernizing Charitable Sector Call (2nd Cycle)

In collaboration with the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, the QRDI Council is pleased to announce the launch of the second cycle of Modernizing Charitable Sector Call (MCSC). The research priority areas for this cycle are:

Generative artificial intelligence solutions and their applications in the fields of charitable, humanitarian and developmental sectors
Creativity and novelty in the fields of charitable, humanitarian and developmental sectors

Each award is up to QAR 150,000 for up to six months.

Path Towards Precision Medicine (8th Cycle)

In collaboration with the Qatar Precision Health Institute, the QRDI Council is pleased to announce the launch of the eighth cycle of the Path Towards Precision Medicine (PPM) call. The research priority areas for this cycle are:

Artificial intelligence, informatics and technology solutions in precision medicine
Community engagement, ethics, policies and implementation strategies in precision medicine
Disease risk stratification in population groups
Integration of genomics and other omics in clinical diagnostics
Pharmacogenomics from discovery to implementation

Each award is up to QAR 800,000 (U.S. $219,178) per year for up to three years. At least 80% of the total annual budget and 65% of the effort should be expended inside Qatar.

Pathways Toward Prosperity (2nd Cycle)

The QRDI Council is pleased to announce the launch of the second cycle of the Pathways Toward Prosperity (PTP) call. The research priority area for this cycle is:

Enhancing Qatar’s global competitiveness in talent retention: a survey-based study to uncover key challenges and opportunities

Each award is up to QAR 150,000 for up to six months. The total budget should be expended inside Qatar.
