Divin Kang

Psychology Student

Biography

Divin Kang is completing an Honours Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology.

Kang, who is on the Dean’s Honour List, says she feels Carleton has offered her the perfect mix of arts and science.

In her second year, Kang became involved on campus with UNICEF, raising awareness for children’s emergency aid, and she serves as vice-president of UNICEF Carleton. She has also worked as a Research Assistant and a Teaching Assistant while studying at Carleton.

In her third year, she began volunteering as an upper-year science mentor at the Science Student Success Centre (SSSC), guiding first-year students in their science classes. This year, she is co-lead of the Health Care team, helping to organize workshops and events on medical school admissions, MCAT preparation, as well as alternatives to medical school.

The SSSC helped Kang become more comfortable as a leader, and she believes her university experience would not be the same without time spent there.

“At Carleton, I was able to have opportunities that I believe I wouldn’t have had at other schools – like volunteering at support programs for the entire Faculty of Science.”

Kang hopes to pursue a career in dentistry. Her interest began while shadowing her uncle at his practice.

For her fourth year honours project, Kang studied the relationship between depression and the prevalence of oral disease. She hopes to continue this research in dental school, and raise awareness about the importance of oral and physical health for mentally ill patients.
