Where do you want to live, study and play?

Big school or small school? Small-town or urban hustle-and-bustle? Maybe you want the best of all worlds, combining natural beauty and recreation with vibrant arts and culture. Look for somewhere with safe and affordable housing, transit and proximity to things you like to do as well as employers for part-time work and after graduation. Take a walk around campus to make sure it looks and feels like a place you could call home.

Will you gain the right experience for your future?

Going to university is about building knowledge, skills and experience for your future. A lot of your learning will take place in the classroom, labs and tutorials, but your individual growth, perspective and experience develops beyond the classroom too. Be sure to check out options for co-op jobs, work-study placements, studying abroad, volunteering or hands-on research.

Will you feel comfortable and empowered to take on challenges and succeed?

Having a smart, caring community cheering you on is so important at this next stage of your life. To truly find your people and your purpose you need to get a deep sense of the university by exploring the campus community, its services, clubs and societies, and by talking to current students.

Will you have the support you need to be successful?

When it comes to reaching your goals, financial, academic and other supports are major factors. Think about what is most important to you and compare this to what each university offers. Consider scholarships, learning support, career planning, wellness programs and accessibility services.

Will you have opportunities to make an impact during and after your degree?

As you decide what to study, you may be thinking about your personal purpose and impact. Explore what the university is doing in the areas you care about. Look at its career-focused degree programs, community volunteering, research positions or entrepreneurship.
