Dr. Hongwei Zhou
Postdoctoral Fellow at Carleton University
Hongwei (Henry) Zhou is a postdoctoral fellow and leads the game design teams for EDIT‑STEM. He specializes in creating games that are not only engaging, but also deeply meaningful and thoughtfully designed to explore complex ideas. His research examines how games can function as rich cultural and educational experiences, rather than just entertainment.
Henry brings a diverse background in computer science, visualization, game AI, media studies, and philosophy, which allows him to approach game design from multiple perspectives. This blend of technical and theoretical expertise helps him think critically about how games sit at the intersection of culture, art, design, and the evolving challenges of technology, science, and ethics.
Through both his PhD work and ongoing research, Henry is committed to understanding how interactive experiences can foster reflection, empathy, and learning. He collaborates closely with designers, developers, and subject-matter experts to build games that are rigorous in their design and impactful in their purpose.
