Dr. Natalina Salmaso

Neurobiology Professor at Carleton University

Dr. Natalina Salmaso is a tenured Associate Professor at Carleton University and holds the Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Neurobiology. Their research examines sex differences and the role of astroglial cells in neurodevelopment and in psychiatric and neurological disorders. Spanning basic and translational science, their work investigates molecular mechanisms of brain disease and evaluates the predictive value of candidate molecules as therapeutic biomarkers in patients.

In addition to their academic role, Dr. Salmaso is a licensed clinical psychologist and maintains a small private practice serving the LGBTQ2S+ community in Ottawa, Canada. They are the founder and a steering committee member of the Canadian Association of Neuroscientists who study Glia (CANGlia) and serve on the editorial board of Glial Health Research. Through this combined research, clinical, and leadership work, Dr. Salmaso is committed to advancing more precise, inclusive, and mechanistically informed approaches to brain health.
