This summer, Queen’s University’s School of Graduate Studies will be holding its annual “Lake Shift” dissertation writing retreat for PhD students. The retreat will take place during the third week of July at the Queen’s University Biology Station on Lake Opinicon, an idyllic spot just north of Kingston, Ontario.

Guests at the Lake Shift receive shared accommodation, three meals per day, and bus service from Kingston to Lake Opinicon and back. Activities apart from writing include swimming and hiking.

Carleton University’s Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs would like to send four Carleton PhD students to the Lake Shift retreat. The FGPA will cover the $500 fee for each student, and the students will only have to pay for their transportation between Ottawa and Kingston. Bus service from Kingston to Lake Opinicon and back is provided.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please send us an email with your name, program, and a short paragraph telling us how this retreat would help you make progress in writing your dissertation. We will choose four students based on these submissions to invite to the retreat. Please note that we will not judge your submission based on your research, but only on your ability to persuade us that this retreat would be beneficial to you.

All entries are due by 12:00 p.m. on May 15, and should be sent to david.lafferty@carleton.ca.
