Description:
Storytelling is one of our primary forms of communication, and our culture—from movies and advertising to our daily newsfeeds—is permeated with stories of all kinds. To connect with people as an academic, you need to tell stories with your research, and the storytelling skills you develop can benefit you in fields beyond academia as well.
Learning outcomes:
(1) Understand how stories function as a primary form of communication in human culture
(2) Learn about the elements of stories, and different types of stories
(3) Acquire insight into how storytelling can inform how you communicate your research
(4) Gain an overview of how storytelling can function in non-academic professional contexts like copywriting and content marketing

All graduate students and postdocs are welcome. If you are a TA, this session counts toward voluntary paid training hours, provided that you are working as a TA in the term when the training takes place.
For those registered in the Trajectories program, attendance at this workshop may count toward one of the required workshops for the Communications and Engagement non-credit certificate.
