Public Health Without Borders: Global Health Leadership Perspectives
Abstract
National Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) are multi-disciplinary committees of national experts that provide scientific and technical advice for decision-makers on immunization policy and practice issues. A NITAG is both a technical resource and a deliberative body to empower national authorities and policy makers to make evidence-based decisions and work towards achieving the full potential of immunization. To develop guidance, NITAGs systematically compile, review and evaluate the available evidence on a range of public health topics, with consideration to the local epidemiological and social context.
International collaborations in health guidance development are expanding given their recognized potential to enhance productivity, capacity building, knowledge generation and transfer to address policy issues from a more global perspective. The dynamics of international NITAG collaboration across organizational and regional boundaries have not been studied in-depth and longitudinally. Therefore, increased understanding of the internal and external factors for international NITAG collaboration can reveal opportunities for the expansion and diversification of productive NITAG interactions globally.
