“A few select professors who were truly excellent at their craft.  Their teaching skills and expertise in their field of study broadened my knowledge and understanding of human rights and the law as they fit within a social, political, economic and legal context. It has been a privilege and I hope to continue to integrate what I have learned from them into my understanding of the world around me.”

“The Human Rights program to me was unique in the sense that it arose a deep exploration of the world at hand but also of oneself. People were evolving before you in the program’s powerful classes that were able to shift people’s point of view and moral compasses.

I would also like to pay reignition to Bill Skidmore for always having an open door and for making the program warm and welcoming.

The arboretum on campus will forever be a treasure and was my favourite study buddy.

Thanks for the memories, Carleton!“

“My favourite memory throughout my undergrad was the opportunity to get to know fellow students within the human rights and social justice program. It was nice to see familiar faces that I had classes with in first year all the way to fourth year.”

“My favourite moment from the program was taking HUMR 1001. This was my first time taking a human rights course so it was a wonderful learning experience. This course helped affirm for me my desire to pursue human rights law as a career.”

“One of my regrets in university was not transferring to the Human Rights program earlier in my undergraduate degree. The courses provided me the skills and lessons I have always wanted to learn about the world. The professors encouraged questions to provoke critical thinking to look for solutions. They have made the program enjoyable and have supported me in my current and future endeavours. I feel equipped enough to challenge the status quo and continue to resist injustices and institutions, including universities.”

“I believe people’s stories are powerful and invaluable as they speak truth to the complexities of the world. What I will take away from my experience is how people from all different walks of life and positionalities come together to engage in social justice work in solidarity with one another. The best lesson I learnt from a fellow student was to approach my work with an open mind and open heart, because it is then, that true transformative change is possible. I will be forever grateful to Patrizia Gentile and Egla Martinez-Salazar for the teachings they bestowed upon me.”
