The Innovation Hub welcomes all Carleton students to attend another Lunch and Learn event this Friday! Students will have the chance to hear from our special guest speaker Derek Sheppard, an Associate from Gowling WLG who will be delivering a presentation on Creating Novel Ideas. Gowling WLG is a law firm with over 1500 legal professionals across the globe. They offer extensive expertise in vital industries and a range of legal services, both domestically and internationally.

Derek’s practice focuses on drafting and prosecution of applications for patents before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He advises on patentability, patent validity, freedom-to-operate, and patent infringement issues.

Derek also drafts and reviews IP related aspects of agreements (e.g., non-disclosure, employment, consulting, joint venture, purchase, license, and assignment), and performs due diligence on IP assets in support of transactions.
