Linda Cho is a second-year student taking a B.Sc. in Neuroscience and Mental Health (Honours). Linda and her sister Julie (Sprott Entrepreneur student) aim to build a social enterprise, Ascend Art is an online artist platform that connects artists with disabilities to a network of commercial buyers/businesses providing a potentially long-term financial solution for these artists. They have the goal to connect vulnerable artists with disabilities that face multiple barriers to long-term employment and have no access to an art network of buyers to connect them with commercial art buyers to be financially independent. Linda is an active member of the EDI Neuroscience Committee and has helped interview a Neuroscience graduate student that had overcome multiple barriers in the pursuit of graduate studies for the EDI Neuroscience Spotlight Video series. This past summer, Linda was a DSRI (Dean Summer Research Internship) student in Hildebrand’s lab in the Neuroscience department learning advanced lab techniques and research skills. Linda was a recipient of the City of Ottawa Art Project: City of Ottawa – 2022 Equity and Inclusion in the Arts Project – GROW Grant Category. She has the goal to continue to advocate for people with disabilities through developing a social enterprise, an online artist platform-Ascend Art, and The City of Ottawa Art Project: City of Ottawa – 2022 Equity and Inclusion in the Arts Project – GROW Grant Category. Her future neuroscience research projects will aim to disrupt systemic barriers/inequities for STEM students with disabilities on campus and in the workplace.
