In the heart of Ottawa, a remarkable collaboration unfolded between two distinct departments: the Technology Innovation Management (TIM) Program and the Lifelong Learning Program (LLeaP) at Carleton University. This union, aptly named LLeaP Cares, sought to bridge the gap between different facets of the university community while fostering a spirit of generosity and support.
For over 25 years, LLeaP had been a beacon of lifelong learning, offering diverse opportunities for adults of all ages to engage in stimulating lectures and discussions. Meanwhile, the TIM Program stood as a center of master programs focused on innovation and technology, shaping the minds of future industry leaders.
It was with this that the idea of LLeaP Cares was born. Spearheaded by both programs, the initiative aimed to provide essential items, including household goods, to TIM students. The community rallied behind the cause, donating a plethora of items ranging from TVs and computer monitors to kitchenware and bicycles.
“The quality and usefulness of the items provided were truly beyond my expectations,” a TIM student expressed, reflecting on the impact of the donations.
The response was overwhelming. Items poured in from generous donors across Ottawa, filling the space in 102 St. Patrick’s Building with tangible expressions of goodwill. These contributions were more than just material possessions; they served as symbols of solidarity and support for students striving to succeed in their academic endeavors, as well as for those navigating new living conditions in a new city and country.
Over the course of two weeks, TIM students were invited to partake in this generous offering. The distribution process was filled with warmth and gratitude, as each recipient received items carefully selected to meet their needs.
“The monitor I received has significantly enhanced my study environment,” remarked the student, expressing gratitude for the specific item received.
As the dust settled on this inaugural collaboration, reflections on its success reverberated throughout the university community. Plans were already underway for future iterations of LLeaP Cares, with organizers setting their sights on another event in September.
“I am inspired by the dedication of everyone involved in LLeaP Cares,” the student concluded.
Looking ahead, the legacy of LLeaP Cares would endure, with plans already in motion for its continuation in the Fall 2024 term. As the university community reflected on the impact of this initiative, it became clear that the spirit of generosity and support embodied by LLeaP Cares would continue to resonate, enriching the lives of TIM students for years to come.
