Carleton’s Halim Yanikomeroglu Receives IEEE Communications Society Wireless Communications Technical Committee Recognition Award

Published on December 11, 2018

Carleton University’s Halim Yanikomeroglu, professor in the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, has received the IEEE Communications Society Wireless Communications Technical Committee (WTC) Recognition Award 2018. His research spans the architecture of wireless networks, as well as the physical, medium access, networking and cross-layer aspects of wireless communications.

“Carleton congratulates professor Yanikomeroglu for this honour and for his global leadership in finding innovative, collaborative approaches to solving critical real-world problems,” said Rafik Goubran, vice-president (Research and International). “His research is evidence of Carleton’s significant expertise in the areas of wireless technology and telecommunications.”

Only one or two awards are given annually to those with a high degree of visibility and contribution in the field of wireless and mobile communications theory, systems and networks.

“Since I joined Carleton 20 years ago, it has provided me the resources and atmosphere to conduct research that impacts the standardization of the 4G LTE networks, as well as the upcoming 5G wireless networks,” said Yanikomeroglu. “My biggest achievement has been the success of the researchers I supervised. It is fulfilling to see young researchers completing their degrees and moving forward in their careers. I am honored to receive this award and I dedicate it to my family and the talented researchers that I have collaborated with and learned from over the years.”

The WTC is one of the largest technical committees within IEEE with more than 1,700 members.  Yanikomeroglu served on this committee for a decade in various capacities, including as chair for two years.

Yanikomeroglu received the award during the society’s flagship conference GLOBECOM in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
