In this lecture, Pate will address urgent challenges facing our criminal justice system as we approach the federal election. The longtime executive director of the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies has dedicated her career to working with some of society’s most marginalized, victimized, criminalized and institutionalized — particularly imprisoned youth, men and women. Pate is widely credited as the driving force behind the Inquiry into Certain Events at the Prison for Women in Kingston.
Pate was appointed to the Senate on Nov. 10, 2016. She is a member of the Order of Canada, a recipient of the Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case, the Canadian Bar Association’s Bertha Wilson Touchstone Award and holds five honourary doctorates.
A story on Pate and her work can be found online.
