Happy Holidays: What’s Open and Closed at Carleton University

December 23, 2020

Carleton University is officially closed from Thursday, Dec. 24, 2020 through Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, inclusive. The university will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021. Winter term classes will resume online on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021.

With the continued rise in COVID-19 cases, the Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, announced it is imposing a Provincewide Shutdown, including the City of Ottawa, effective Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, at 12:01 a.m. Read more about the measures Carleton is implementing here.

During the holiday period, all campus buildings will be locked. Campus Safety Services (CSS) will provide access to buildings on an emergency basis only. Authorized faculty, staff and students may gain access using their Campus Cards at card readers. The CSS Communication Centre can be reached at 613-520-4444 in emergencies, and 613-520-3612 for general inquiries. They are located at 203 Robertson Hall. For more information, visit carleton.ca/safety.

Under orders from the Government of Ontario and guidance from Public Health Ontario and Ottawa Public Health, Carleton is required to implement COVID-19 screening for all employees. All employees (including faculty, contract instructors, staff and teaching/research assistants) must complete the short COVID-19 Screening Form prior to coming to campus and entering a building, including a restricted access building. This form must be completed every day you come to campus.

Residence and Dining Services

In advance of the holiday season, the Housing and Residence Life team is providing all students with information about key dates regarding the closure of buildings and availability of meals. No student will be permitted to remain in or enter a closed building. Please visit the residence December closure website for more information.

After the university reopens on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, residence will remain open with increased mitigation measures. Students living in residence will receive a separate email with additional information.

Recreation and Athletics

Effective 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2020, all facilities will be closed until Jan. 23, 2021 or until further notice. All Carleton Athletics programs and memberships will be cancelled, suspended or postponed. Registration fees will be automatically applied as a credit and will not expire. For a refund, please email ravens@carleton.ca. Online fitness classes are still available for registration. For updates, please visit the Athletics website.
