With the federal government scheduled to deliver the 2024 budget today, Carleton experts are available to comment on the new budget and a number of related issues.

Vivek Dehejia

Dehejia is available to discuss the upcoming budget as it relates to Canada’s overall macroeconomic picture – GDP, productivity, unemployment, inflation, etc. Dehejia recently testified on these matters at the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance.

His fields of research include international trade, international economic development and international macroeconomics. He is available to discuss how both the continuing inflation problem and high interest rates that are creating an affordability issue may impact Trudeau. He can also speak to Trudeau’s recent overseas travel affecting how Canada is perceived abroad.

Ian Lee

Lee is happy to discuss a number of issues, including the federal deficit and size of government relative to past federal governments.

Lee has appeared multiple times before the House of Commons and Senate finance, banking, industry and trade committees. He has been in every Government of Canada budget lockup since 2008. He attended pre-budget consultations with the Minister of Finance in 2009 and 2011. His work has appeared in the annual publication, How Ottawa Spends, concerning Canada’s retirement system, the Parliamentary Budget Officer, deficits, corporate income reform,the Liberal downsizing of 1995-97 and the Conservative Government downsizing of 2010-15.
