The U.S.–Canada tariff deadline is August 19, 2026. By this date, U.S. President Donald Trump is threatening to implement new 50 per cent tariffs on over 500 categories of Canadian goods, without the usual CUSMA exemptions. Carleton experts are available to discuss related topics.

Lee has co-authored a new book called Canada in a Trumpian world.
Lee has appeared multiple times before the House of Commons and Senate finance, banking, industry and trade committees. He has been in every Government of Canada budget lockup since 2008. He attended pre-budget consultations with the Minister of Finance in 2009 and 2011. His work has appeared in the annual publication, How Ottawa Spends, concerning Canada’s retirement system, the Parliamentary Budget Officer, deficits, corporate income reform, and more.

Van Rythoven’s research examines the intersection between emotion, international relations, and the politics of security. He is interested in what political emotions are, how they shape debates about security, and how they become sites of contestation in global politics.
