The Faculty of Science at Carleton University invites applications from qualified nursing candidates for a position as a Contract Instructor in our School of Nursing for the first cohort of direct-entry, compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing, degree program. The program adopts an innovative approach to nursing education. Through experiential learning, theory, research and clinical practice, the program is unique in its integration of advanced technology, experiential learning and cultural humility to prepare tech-savvy, compassionate and practice-ready nursing students. Our curriculum, which emphasizes Indigenous health concepts and mental health awareness for both the patients and the providers, will foster community-focused, inclusive healthcare innovators.
The successful candidate will be expected to design, teach, evaluate and incorporate best practices promoting community health, navigating complex healthcare systems, applying epidemiological insights, responding effectively to emerging health issues, and supervise/mentor students in the entry to practice competencies as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Position Overview
We’re hiring 1 Contract Instructor to teach the following course in the Faculty of Science, School of Nursing. Please note that we have provided tentative dates of course delivery that may be subject to change pending final confirmation of the course schedule:

| Designated Modality | To the discretion of the instructor with preference given to in-person learning for the majority of delivery (Carleton University delivers programming at central campus as well as in Kanata at 350 Legget Drive). |
*Class is currently scheduled on Monday from 8:35am-11:25am from May-July 2025 at central campus.
Course description: Introduction to nursing community support systems, focusing on Ontario-based community care delivery models, harm reduction, epidemiology and navigating healthcare systems. Covers well child promotion and immunization.

Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver course content for community health practice and principals, adhering to the competency frameworks for entry to practice and RN prescribing from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Incorporate best practices including advising to simulation and clinical instructors for application of the theory taught in this course
- Mentor and support students
- Act as a departmental advisor for continued best practice in alignment with RN Prescribing including program iteration
Qualifications
- Professional experience as a Registered Nurse with a license in good standing with the respective regulatory body.
- Preference given to applicants with experience with online teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom, Brightspace, Blackboard).
- Preference given to applicants with demonstrated experience in teaching at a university or similar post-secondary institution, mentoring students, and/or facilitating workshops.
- Ability to travel and deliver in-person sessions when required
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to understand, interpret and carry out verbal and written instructions in the English language
