Join the Science Student Success Centre (SSSC) the week of Monday, November 13 to Friday, November 17, 2023, to celebrate Science Kindness Week and being kind to one another. Join your friends and peers throughout the week to participate in fun and inclusive community events!
No registration is required, with the exception of the Traditional Mini Drum Workshop and Karaoke Night events.
The days of Science Kindness Week are as follows:
Mindful Monday – November 13, 2023
Painting: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Start off the week off with an activity to get your creative mind firing! Come to the SSSC (3431 Herzberg) anytime between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to paint your next masterpiece. Canvas, paints and brushes will be provided to all participants at the event.
Thoughtful Tuesday – November 14, 2023
Sticky Notes
The SSSC is spreading positivity on-campus with sticky notes around your favourite science buildings. Keep an eye out for these messages to bring you some extra joy this November.
Traditional Mini Drum Workshop: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Join Vanessa Cyr from the Centre for Indigenous Support and Community Engagement to be lead through an amazing Traditional Mini Drum Workshop from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the SSSC (3431 Herzberg). Learn some drum knowledge while Vanessa guides the group through the construction of a mini drum keychain craft! Wholesome Wednesday – November 15, 2023
Decorate a Mini Pot: 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Come by the SSSC (3431 Herzberg) to decorate an adorable mini pot from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Create a design all your succulents will love!
Speedy’s *Shifted* Office Hour: 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Stop by the SSSC (3431 Herzberg) from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a special Science Kindness Week office hour with CU Therapy Dog Speedy!
Wholesome Wednesday Instagram Contest
Lastly, be sure to tune in throughout the day to @sssccarleton on Instagram for the Wholesome Wednesday Contest. Share a picture of what you feel is wholesome (e.g. pets, a comfort food dish, your favourite book, cuddling up with a blanket on a cold day, etc.) for the chance to win a prize!
Throwback Thursday – November 16, 2023
Arts & Crafts: 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Take a break from midterms, assignments and studying to do some relaxing arts and crafts with SSSC mentors! In line with the Throwback Thursday theme, get the chance to make friendship bracelets and origami flowers from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Karaoke Night: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Warm up those singing voices and pick out your favourite songs for an amazing night of tunes and making new friends! Join in at the SSSC (3431 Herzberg) for some karaoke, snacks and some great times! Are you a fan of board games? How about card games? Participate in the SSSC’s (3431 Herzberg) Board Game Bash from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Meet new friends, have snacks and end the week on a fun note!
