Carleton University embraces a substance use health approach which understands substance use is influenced by and has impacts on an individual’s social, physical and mental health and well-being. Carleton University’s Umbrella Project harm reduction strategy promotes positive substance use health and aims to reduce stigma and encourage safer substance use through education, outreach and support. Harm reduction is an umbrella term for policies and practices focused on reducing negative physical, social and legal impacts of substance use.
