Carleton Centre for Permafrost
The Carleton Centre for Permafrost @Carleton was formed by a team of investigators from four faculties. Their combined expertise has formed a multi-disciplinary centre of diverse research across sectors, disciplines, geographies and ways of knowing to address permafrost thaw and climate change within and beyond Canada.
The centre is open to, and brings together, researchers from across Carleton University who may be carrying out research than can contribute to solutions and a greater understanding of permafrost thaw. The centre places stakeholder needs at the heart of its work, uniting investigators, partners and organizations.
The Canadian Centre for Permafrost @Carleton takes a broad view of the climate-permafrost-people nexus that includes questions related to engineering design, climate action, biogeochemistry and policy responses.
The goals of this group are:
1) A national vision and strategy for permafrost thaw and climate-change adaptation.
2) A long-term connected approach to permafrost research across disciplines at Carleton.
3) Trusted partnerships with northern universities and Indigenous organizations and communities.
In alignment with Carleton University’s strategic plan focus, the centre is committed to supporting reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and placing a focus on knowledge mobilization, community engagement, partnership, and leadership in the wellness of our people, communities and planet.
