Development of fibre optic sensors for physical and chemical parameters and research into improving their accuracy, reliability, and cost-effectiveness for specific applications. In particular, fibre Bragg grating sensor arrays can be used to monitor temperatures and/or strains simultaneously over large distances and for extended periods of time, thereby providing essential long-term data for monitoring permafrost changes (temperature and soil movement, and possibly GHG outgassing).
