My research program focuses on atmospheric composition related to climate change and air quality, with a specific interest in short-lived climate pollutants such as methane. Permafrost thaw represents a huge potential methane source to the atmosphere with high uncertainty in both the timing and spatial distribution of its release to the atmosphere. We are presently studying the capacity of current satellite observing systems for methane to detect and differentiate methane release from permafrost compared to other natural and anthropogenic methane sources.
