My name is Loukaïya ZOROBOURAGUI. I earned my BSc in Animal and Fish Production Sciences and Techniques (Agronomy) and my MSc in Animal Production with a specialization in Animal Genetics and Conservation. Currently, I am a doctoral candidate in Animal Genetics and Conservation at the Doctoral School of Agronomic Sciences and Water at the University of Parakou in Benin. I also work as a research assistant at the Laboratory of Animal Health and Production Ecology (LESPA), Faculty of Agronomy, University of Parakou.
My thesis project aims to provide a morpho-biometric and genotypic characterization of the Goudali zebus in West Africa, securing animal-derived proteins and nutrients and improving the quality of food of animal origin by science breeding selection and preserving animal health. This helps promote progress towards the sustainable development goal of “Zero Hunger” by 2030.
I am actively involved in various leadership and mentoring activities, demonstrating my commitment to contribute to agricultural research and sustainable development and to strengthen my capacities for my future career as a researcher.
I am now a mentee in the One Planet Fellowship program initiated by AWARD (African Women in Agricultural Research and Development). I am benefiting from a 6-month AWARD Leadership and Mentoring Program for Emerging African Women in Science, during which I will engage in comprehensive learning and development.
In 2022, I was awarded a scholarship from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Program (MSCFP) in the field of nuclear application to animals, aimed at strengthening food security and livelihoods through improved livestock productivity and control of transboundary animal and zoonotic diseases. I am passionate about agricultural research and eager to tackle the challenges of animal husbandry.
