The Senior Management Committee met on December 18, 2023, for review and approval of the following policies:
Tuition Refunds upon a Student’s Death
The policy outlines that in the event of a student’s death during an academic term, including the period of examinations, the University will reverse the tuition charges and, if applicable, reimburse the student’s estate with the remaining balance. This policy applies whenever a student suffers a death during the academic term (including the term’s examination period) and is applicable to all terms: Fall, Winter, and Summer.
There are no changes to the process of applying the policy. However, there is a new addition of roles and responsibilities as well as links to related policies.
Environmental Health and Safety Policy and Guidelines
This Policy fulfils the University’s legal obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to have a Health and Safety Policy that is renewed annually. Further, this Policy confirms the University’s commitment to ensuring a strong and sustainable health and safety culture.
The updated version of this policy includes a statement of commitment that is aligned with ISO standards and best practices. The update also includes added links to related policies, which are the Alcohol and Cannabis Use Policies. There are no changes to the Carleton University’s Guideline on Impairment at Work.
Workplace Harassment Prevention Policy
This Policy fulfils the legal obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for a Workplace Harassment Prevention Policy, which is renewed annually. Further, it confirms the university’s commitment to ensuring a respectful learning and working environment that is free of harassment, including sexual harassment.
There are no notable changes to this policy.
This Policy fulfills the legal obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act for a Workplace Violence Prevention Policy which is renewed annually. Further, this Policy confirms the university’s commitment to ensuring a respectful learning and working environment that is free of violence, including sexual violence.

The primary purpose of the Procurement Policy is to ensure that the acquisition of goods and services is undertaken in an open, fair, transparent, efficient, ethical, and cost-effective manner while obtaining the best value for money for the University.

- Limited Tendering Exceptions: Any Limited Tendering Exception request above the Open Competitive Process threshold outlined in this policy will require the approval of the appropriate Vice-President
