Did you know that today, June 30, 2016, is the seventh annual Social Media Day? Mashable.com launched Social Media Day in 2010 as a way to recognize and celebrate social media’s impact on global communication. All over the world, people are talking about the impact of social media on social media. You can join the chatter by using #SocialMediaDay or #SMDay.

Isn’t social media just great?

And it’s fitting that Carleton’s Social Media Working Group chose today to get together to keep figuring out how to make social media better for the whole campus.

Making Social Media Work: Carleton’s Social Media Working Group

The group joined forces in early-2016 to chart a way forward after the scope of Carleton’s Social Media Strategy had run its two-year course. We landed on three priorities, and they are:

  • Community Building – There are a lot of people working on official social media accounts at Carleton, and we’d like to know who they are and how we can help them.
  • Metrics and Management – Carleton’s account managers have a lot of different ways of managing and measuring their social media content, and we’d like to know what they are.
  • Content Planning – Every day there are new events, announcements and conversations happening at Carleton, and we’d like to know how we can better plan and co-ordinate this content between social media accounts and platforms.

We’re sure that you’ll start to see the impact of the group’s efforts soon, as we offer events, training, tips and spaces for the community to learn. This website is just one example.

So happy Social Media Day! And if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.
