Title: Building Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Ottawa

About the Talk
As the electricity grid transitions to net-zero emissions, we will need to radically increase the amount of low-carbon energy resources that are deployed. In this talk, Mark Whelan and Carl Haeussler will discuss Evolugen’s growth and recent activities, focusing on the deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Ottawa. They will touch on topics including BESS siting and permitting, with a focus on the scope of the studies and plans that are required—at the engineering, planning, and environmental levels—before decisions are made. Component sourcing and construction will also be discussed, as well as the critical role of transmission interconnections. A substantial portion of the seminar will focus on the role of municipalities and consultation, and the importance of engaging communities and stakeholders.
