Title: Sustainability transitions in urban mobility: struggles and strategies of grassroots cycling initiatives in Brazil
About the Talk
This presentation explores how cycling associations in Brazil are driving social innovation and sustainable mobility in car-dominated cities. Based on interviews with activists across five major cities, the research highlights how grassroots groups build capacity, secure institutional recognition, and influence policy through hybrid leadership, professional organisation, and inclusive networks. The study also shows that long-term success depends on collaboration, trust, and shared learning, not just political opportunities.
