Master of Arts – Women’s and Gender Studies
Our Master of Arts program offers an investigation of gender, sexuality, race, and disabilities. We offer an opportunity to work with dynamic faculty members who place social justice struggles and strategies at the forefront of curriculum and research. Within a transnational and intersectional framework, students can explore issues relating to:
- reproductive justice
- work
- violence
- queer, trans, and non-binary studies
- popular culture and digital media
- fat studies
- critical race studies
- madness studies
- disability justice
- migration, diaspora, borders, and citizenship
- affect studies
Our program includes transnational feminist scholarship, critical research and thinking skills, interdisciplinary and grounded knowledge. We also offer two collaborative specializations: 1) African Studies and 2) Latin American and Caribbean Studies.

The deadline for applications to the master’s program is:
- February 1 for applicants requesting financial assistance for September; applications will continue to be considered beyond this date (space permitting) and funding may be available;
Application Requirements:
- Statement of intent/research interest (1 single space page). Please include the following information: a brief description about your relevant education and work experience, a basic outline of your research interests, and a brief explanation of your interest in our MA program. Please note: you need only provide a general research topic/research proposal. Additionally, it is not necessary for you to identity a potential supervisor or have an appointed supervisor to be admitted to the program.
- A cv/resume with a list of published and creative works if applicable.
- Two letters of reference from persons who are prepared to comment on your academic background and potential for graduate studies.
- One certified transcript from all universities you have attended.
- All international students whose first language is not English must provide proof of language proficiency in English. - A non-refundable application processing fee of $100.00 Canadian must be submitted for each program to which you apply. This fee is payable to the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) by Visa, Mastercard, cheque, or money order.
