Master's Student

Degrees:Honours Bachelor of Applied Science, Family Studies and Human Development (University of Guelph), Diploma in Social Service Work (Fanshawe College)

By enrolling in the MA Women and Gender Studies program at Carleton University, I wanted to complement my previous experience working with vulnerable youth and Indigenous communities. My interests include social justice, advocacy, and social policy as it relates to Indigenous communities, 2SLGBTQIA, and historically oppressed groups. I am currently building my knowledge through practical experience, by completing a practicum at the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity. In the Fall 2020, I am hoping to return to school for my Master of Social Work. Following the completion of my Master of Social Work, my goal is to work within the Indigenous child welfare system, advocating for Indigenous sovereignty and the delivery of culturally appropriate services for Indigenous families.

Something you like about the program: The professors and faculty are exceedingly helpful, encouraging, and easy-going in all ways to support you in whatever you are working on or direction you want to pursue. They will assist you in finding an appropriate supervisor, give you critical feedback on assignments, and will suggest readings, conferences, opportunities they believe will help you be successful.
