Gift of Shares
Charitable Gift of Securities Form
- Donors must complete the Charitable Gift of Securities Form with their broker* and send it to katie.stigter@carleton.ca before initiating the transfer.
- The Carleton Advancement Gifts Admin team must inform CIBC Mellon to expect the shares in order for them to successfully accept the transfer.
- The timeline will depend on the broker, but CIBC Mellon should inform Carleton of the successful transfer and confirm the amount within ten business days of the donor’s broker sending the form to katie.stigter@carleton.ca.
- Within one to two business days, a letter of direction will be signed for the gift to be transferred to Carleton and Gifts Admin will then record the gift and issue the charitable tax receipt.

- Your broker must send a letter of direction to Scotia iTrade.
- The transfer can be made using the account information on the form above.
- Advancement’s Gifts Admin team will confirm the valuation, record the gift and issue the charitable tax receipt
*If you don’t have a broker, your financial advisor may be able to help you donate shares through Canada Helps
EFT and Wire Gifts
- Contact katie.stigter@carleton.ca to get the most up-to-date banking information for you.
- Your bank needs to have the remittance advice sent to receipt.accounting@carleton.ca along with a comment saying that the funds are for Advancement.
- Carleton’s Cash Office will inform Gifts Admin that the gift has been received and Advancement will issue the charitable tax receipt.

- The department or faculty is responsible for completing the Departmental Declaration Form and the appropriate valuation form (above).
- The donor will need to sign the Donor Declaration Form (above).
- All forms must be sent to katie.stigter@carleton.ca.
