The Tory Society is a unique giving society, established to recognize Carleton’s most generous and loyal donors. It is named after Henry Marshall Tory, Carleton’s founder and first president.
Through the Tory Society, we thank and recognize you and your tremendous support, which helps make great things happen for Carleton students. Membership is extended annually to donors who contribute $1,000 or more, have been giving for ten or more consecutive years, or donate on a monthly basis.
As an expression of our gratitude, Tory Society members will receive:
- Special updates from Carleton’s President
- Exclusive invitations to events, such as Carleton’s Butterfly Show special preview tour and annual Holiday Reception

Education as a force for good
There is no greater adventure than the search for knowledge… no life more pleasurable than seeking to us it in the common good. No joy so great as the joy of real discovery to the well-balanced mind.
– Henry Marshall Tory, Carleton’s Founder
A gift to Carleton is more than just a donation. It is a beginning of a journey – one in which students embark on life-changing learning experiences, where researchers unlatch doors to discovery, where future leaders find opportunity and academic success, and where together we make a positive impact on our community and beyond.
We ask donors to give not to Carleton, but through Carleton, so that together we can contribute more to the good of society, its economy and institutions, and the health and well-being of citizens around the world.
