Dr. Rebecca Merkley

Assistant Professor, Department of Cognitive Science

Rebecca investigates the reciprocal relationship between early childhood education and children’s development of mathematical thinking. She aims to better understand how cognitive factors, such as executive functions, influence the acquisition of early numeracy skills, and how classroom assessment and instruction can support all children’s math learning. She collaborates with international researchers, educators, and non-government organizations to use evidence from developmental cognitive science research to inform education policy and practice.
