How can the EMA/DEMA be used?

To screen students’ numeracy skills

The EMA/DEMA can be used as a screener to inform educators about their classroom’s numeracy skills. By periodically testing their students throughout the school year, educators can use the EMA/DEMA to track their students’ numeracy growth, identify students who may need extra support in mathematics, and use this information to inform their Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instruction.

To track students’ response to intervention

The EMA/DEMA can be used as a pre-/post-test to evaluate the effectiveness of numeracy interventions by tracking students’ response to intervention.
