AVRC Facilities & Study Spaces
If you’re visiting for the first time, come find us in 460 SP, home to a large workspace, several collections rooms, and our circulation/info desk. Learn more about our other facilities below:
Library (SP 460)
The main AVRC space is home to:
- Our circulation/info desk
- Open stacks (books, journals, catalogues)
- Three large wooden work tables for collections consultation or quiet study (each seating 4-8)
- Several comfortable armchairs
- A photocopier and scanner
Student Lounge (462 SP)
The AVRC student lounge is open from 7am-11pm daily (including weekends), and offers
5 double-monitor computer workstations designed for film-screening needs.
- Long tables with task chairs
- Couches, armchairs, and lamps
- A microwave, fridge, kettle and coffee machine available for use (supplies not provided)
- Display cases with rotating exhibitions
The lounge is for use by: SSAC (Art & Architectural History, Music, Film Studies) students and faculty. Use by others may be permitted on a case-by-case basis. Students must first visit the AVRC circulation desk to have access to the lounge activated on their student card.
Screening Room (SP 433)
The screening room contains:
- A 35mm slide projector, 16mm film projector and projection screen
- A TV screen that can be used for screening DVD, Blu-Ray, VHS, and other video files
- A sectional couch
- A selection of our legacy collections in various media

Emond Room (SP 452)
The Emond room houses the the Jacques Emond Jazz vinyl collection (approximately 3300 jazz LPs). The space can be used for listening to the collection, or as a general-use study space. It also has:
The Emond room is available for use for 2h time periods. Please speak with us before using the record player for the first time.

Tolley Room (SP 454)
The Tolley room holds the Trevor Tolley Jazz Recording Collection (more than 7,000 jazz records) and is intended primarily as a space for studying or listening to the Tolley collection. It is also equipped with:

Collections Room (456 SP)
The collections room is a multi-use space for collections storage and hands-on material consultation. It holds part of our legacy slide collection, our DVD/Blu-Ray collection and various special collections, including the archive of Canadian Women Artists and part of the xDX Collection. The space is equipped with:
- 2 large tables with stools
- A double-sided slide viewing board
- A collections search/self-checkout station
Digitization room (SP 431)
The digitization room has equipment set up for:
- Object photography
- Copy photography (of slides, film, books, printed material, etc)
- Transfer/digitization of film and video (including 16mm film, VHS and laserdisc)
Email us or come by in person to discuss digitizing material needed for your courses or research projects. Use of the digitization room is primarily for those engaged in projects associated with SSAC, and is granted on a case-by-case basis.
