New Sun Bursary for Students with Disabilities

New Sun Bursary for Students with Disabilities
Awarded annually to undergraduate students with a documented permanent disability who are enrolled in a degree program at Carleton University. Eligible students will be in demonstrated financial need and must be registered with the Paul Menton Centre. Endowed in 2019 by Dr. Larry Didow, PhD/72. Dr. Larry Didow obtained his PhD at Carleton University in 1972 and went on to become a professor at the University of Winnipeg. During his tenure at the University, he was very active in the development of the Nathan McKay Learning Resource Centre for Students with Disabilities (now referred to as the Disability Services and Resource Centre) and he currently supports disabled students through several scholarships and/or bursaries at post secondary institutions.

Awarded annually to a student with a continuing physical disability entering a full-time program at Carleton University from an Ottawa high school who is in need of financial assistance. Established in 2017 through the Ottawa Community Foundation.

New Sun Bursary for Students with Disabilities
Awarded annually to two deserving undergraduate students in the final year of any program of study who are registered with the Paul Menton Centre. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2007 from the estate of Mrs. Sarah Lithwick Green.

Awarded annually to a student with a physical disability, in good academic standing, who is proceeding from one year to another of an undergraduate program and is in need of financial assistance. Endowed 1990 by family and friends in memory of Paul Menton, Carleton University’s first co-ordinator of disabled programs.

New Sun Bursary for Students with Disabilities
Awarded annually, to deserving undergraduate students entering or proceeding from one year to another of any program, to support students with disabilities in the attendant services program at Carleton University. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. A committee determined by the Awards Office and the Paul Menton Centre will select the recipients of the award. Endowed in 2007 by family and friends of Nicholas Leroux.

New Sun Bursary for Students with Disabilities
Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Paul Menton Centre, to a student with a Learning Disability proceeding from one year to another who has been involved in student life and is a Canadian citizen. Preference will be given to a student enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Endowed in 2000 by family and friends of Jonathan Brant Teuscher, B.A. 1999. While at Carleton, John touched the lives of many students in his capacity as a volunteer and active participant in student affairs.

New Sun Bursary for Students with Disabilities
Awarded annually on the recommendation of the Director of the Paul Menton Centre to students with a permanent physical disability who are in demonstrated financial need and are entering or continuing in any program of study at Carleton University. Preference will be for students enrolled in a program within the Department of History. Established in 2022 by Hollis Peirce, BA/15, MA/19. Endowed 2023.

New Sun Bursary for Students with Disabilities
Awarded annually to deserving students proceeding from one year to another. Two students (for a total of 10 students per year) will be selected from each of the following areas; College of Humanities, Human Rights, Electronics – doing research work in the area of silicon-based optical sensors, the Attendants Service Program, and students with disabilities registered with the Paul Menton Centre. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or protected person), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Should a recipient be a graduate student, the bursary will be awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs. Endowed in 2008 by Ed Ireland. Revised 2009. Revised 2011. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree within the Faculty of Engineering and Design. Eligible recipients must be must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrant or a protected person), be registered with the Paul Menton Centre. Application is required. Endowed in 2021 by friends and family in memory of Charles Watters.
