Eligibility

To receive part-time OSAP assistance over the summer session, you must meet all OSAP eligibility requirements.

You must also register in a summer course load that is less than 1.5 credits in your summer study period.

Application Process

Step 1.  Determine your Summer Study Period

Depending on your course registration, your summer study period will be one of the following:

OSAP Summer Study Period Study Start and End Dates (includes exam periods)
 Early Summer May 4 – June 25, 2020
 Late Summer July 2 – August 23, 2020
 Full Summer May 4 – August 23, 2020

Note: If you are registering for both Early Summer and Late Summer courses, you are registering for a Full Summer study period.

Step 2. Apply online at ontario.ca/osap

You will need to complete a “Part-time OSAP application” at Ontario.ca/OSAP.

Part-Time OSAP Application Deadline

Your deadline depends on your summer study period.

Early Summer Study Period (May–June)
Submit your part-time OSAP application and all required documents on or before May 16, 2020.

Late Summer Study Period (July-August)
Submit your part-time OSAP application and all required documents on or before July 14, 2020.

Full Summer Study Period (May-August)
Submit your part-time OSAP application and all required documents on or before July 14, 2020.

Step 3. Monitor and Respond

After you submit your application, begin monitoring your Carleton email account for important messages from the Awards Office. Continue to monitor your Carleton email account until your application is fully processed. Be sure to also log in to your OSAP account from time-to-time to review any unread messages in your message centre.

Step 4. Track your application online

Track the progress of your summer OSAP application by signing into your OSAP account at ontario.ca/osap. On the My Applications page click on the “Check Status” link to the right of your summer application record to view your Check Status page.

Step 5. Getting your Funds and Paying Your Fees

Confirmation of Enrolment

A few days before your summer study period begins, OSAP will ask Carleton to confirm your part-time summer enrolment. At that point one of two things will happen:

Enrolment Confirmed
If your registration information (program, year, course-load) matches the information on your OSAP application, and nothing else is holding up your application (e.g. missing documents), we will confirm your enrolment and OSAP will release your funding.

Enrolment Not Confirmed
If your registration information (program, year, course-load) does not match the information on your OSAP application, or if there is a hold on your OSAP account, we won’t be able to confirm your enrolment. In that case, you must contact the Awards Office to resolve the issue.

Remember to check your Carleton email account regularly for messages from the Awards office.

Getting your Funds

If you are planning to pay your tuition and fees with OSAP, your payment due date can be extended so that it aligns with when your OSAP is released. This is called a payment deferral.

To receive a payment deferral your OSAP application must be fully processed and you must be approved for funding on or before the standard payment due date of April 25 for the summer term.

If your OSAP application is on hold and you have not been approved for funding by the fee payment deadline, you will not receive a deferral and will be expected to meet the standard fee payment deadline. For more information about fee payment, contact student accounts.

Paying your Fees

OSAP funding is automatically redirected to your student account to pay down any outstanding fees. If your OSAP entitlement is greater than the amount owing on your student account, the additional funding will be deposited into the bank account that was indicated on your application.
