The Ottawa-Carleton Chemistry Institute (OCCI) combines the graduate teaching research strengths of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University and is now one of Canada’s premier centres for graduate studies in chemistry. OCCI has 39 faculty members who supervise the research of approximately 130 graduate students and 50 postdoctoral fellows. M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees are offered in every area of the discipline and students have ready access to state-of-the-art chemical instrumentation, which is housed in attractive modern surroundings. Many of the faculty are bilingual, and thesis, seminar, and examination requirements may be fulfilled in either English or French.
As a city, Ottawa offers an unparalleled mix of scientific, cultural, and sporting facilities. Also, the proximity of the National Research Council and government laboratories leads to exciting opportunities for collaboration. An important criterion for judging the quality of an academic program is the success of its graduates, and OCCI has had an excellent record of placement of its M.Sc. and Ph.D. graduates in influential posts in industry, government, and academia throughout the world. We encourage you to look carefully through the material in this web site. Please plan to visit us to discuss potential research projects with the faculty and to meet with current students. Having done so, we are confident that you will give us serious consideration in your choice of a graduate school.
