The Ottawa-Carleton Institute of Biology (OCIB) Symposium is back! The OCIB Symposium is the largest event hosted by the OCIB – the collaboration between the biology departments of both the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. The 13th annual OCIB Symposium will be held on the University of Ottawa campus this year, on May 5-6.
This year’s theme is “OCIB: Research with Impact”. Our main goal is to (1) highlight the power of biology by having speakers explain the purpose of their research to a general audience with emphasis on any of the following criteria; novelty, application, overall meaning, and contribution to science, and (2) provide the opportunity to graduate students from both Carleton University and the University of Ottawa to showcase their research, gain experience, obtain feedback, and network.
Continuing on from last year, we will also be hosting Speed Round – a fast-paced competition where students explain their research in two minutes. In addition to the student Speed Round, this year we will be hosting a similar competition with a select few professors from both universities.
Registration for oral and poster presentations is also open! There are a limited number of oral presentations so we ask that students who are interested in giving an oral presentation please submit a 250 word abstract during registration, from which we will base our selection.
More information about the symposium can be found at www.ocibsymposium.com. The OCIB symposium is a terrific event and a great opportunity to learn about the exciting research being conducted by local and invited speakers.
Registration deadline: March 28, 2016
