Gina Malaba
Graduate Student
Gina Malaba is a graduate student at Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, where she specializes in Health, Displacement and Humanitarian Policy, as well as African Studies. She brings a dynamic background in student leadership, community advocacy, and international policy development.
Prior to her graduate studies, Gina served as President of both the University of Alberta’s Black Students’ Association (UABSA) and the English and Film Studies Undergraduate Network (EFSUN). In these roles, she represented hundreds of students, led large executive teams, and collaborated with scholars, community partners, and municipal leaders to advance the academic, mental, and social well-being of Black youth in Edmonton.
Gina is also the co-founder of the Black Students Association Alumni Network (BSAAN), an organization dedicated to supporting the professional development of Black postgraduates through career panels, media spotlights, and advocacy for equitable access to employment and social services.
Her professional experience includes working as a Program Coordinator at the Canadian Community Economic Development Network (CCEDNet), where she led stakeholder engagement initiatives and produced bilingual reports for an intersectional advisory committee. She currently serves on the Youth Advisory Board for the Mental Health and Climate Change Alliance (MHCCA), contributing to research at the intersection of youth advocacy, mental health, and climate justice.
In 2024, Gina completed an international affairs internship with 1834 Global, where she co-authored a policy report for Plan International Canada. Her work offered strategic recommendations on youth engagement in international aid, presented to representatives from Global Affairs Canada, Amnesty International, and the World Bank of Canada.
Gina has been elected to the Board of Governors for a one-year term commencing July 1, 2025, and ending on June 30, 2026.
