Jonathan Malloy

Professor Jonathan Malloy is a full professor in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University, where he is approaching his 25th anniversary as a faculty member. He served as department chair from 2012 to 2018, and later as Associate Dean (Research and Graduate) in the Faculty of Public Affairs from 2021 to 2024. He currently holds the prestigious Bell Chair in Canadian Parliamentary Democracy, returning to his core passions of teaching and research.
Professor Malloy is a leading scholar in Canadian politics and public affairs, with a prolific publication record that includes seven books, most recently the co-edited volume Politics of Ontario. He also serves as the current president of the Canadian Political Science Association, reflecting his national leadership in the discipline.
Beyond his academic research, Professor Malloy is a recognized thought leader in postsecondary education reform. He co-authored For the Public Good: Reimagining Arts Graduate Education in Canada, a bold call for transformative change in graduate education. He also leads academic leadership training for department chairs across Canada and is a vocal advocate for the value of universities. His public commentary includes a widely discussed Globe and Mail article likening Ontario’s postsecondary policies to “Dollarama University,” and a recent CBC radio interview addressing government cuts to higher education.
Jonathan has been elected to the Board of Governors for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2025, and ending on June 30, 2028.
