Question 1: I believe that I would be an excellent candidate to be considered as a Student Governor because:

As a third-year Bachelor of Commerce student with a concentration in Finance, I am passionate about representing my peers and contributing meaningfully to Carleton University’s governance. My leadership experiences, academic achievements, and commitment to student success make me an ideal candidate for this role.

I bring valuable leadership experience, having served as an undergraduate representative on the VPFA advisory committee, where I effectively voiced the concerns of students and collaborated to support impactful decisions. As a Sprott Ambassador and a member of the Sprott Student Consulting Group, I have honed my skills in advocacy, strategic planning, and representing the interests of the student body.

A key priority of mine is addressing the financial pressures faced by students. I am committed to advocating for the reduction of increased tuition fees to ensure accessible and affordable education for all. By focusing on effective budget management and resource allocation, I aim to ensure that the university balances financial sustainability with the needs of students.

I am also dedicated to enhancing Carleton’s reputation by introducing innovative initiatives that empower students and strengthen our standing as a leader in higher education. This includes improving academic programs, expanding career development opportunities, and fostering stronger connections between students and industry professionals.

As a tutor for BUSI 1401, I gained firsthand insight into the challenges students face and the importance of academic support. My certifications, such as FMVA and CMSA, further demonstrate my commitment to professional growth and my ability to approach challenges with a practical and results-driven mindset.

With experience in leadership, governance, and budget management, I am confident in my ability to represent the undergraduate student body with integrity and empathy. I will work tirelessly to advocate for student concerns, champion meaningful change, and ensure Carleton remains a place where students thrive.

I am excited to bring my leadership, vision, and dedication to the Board of Governors and look forward to making a positive impact on our university community.

Question 2: I have the following skills and experiences which would be beneficial in my role as Student Governor:

To serve effectively as a student governor, one must possess a combination of leadership skills, advocacy experience, and strategic thinking. My experiences as a Sprott Ambassador and an undergraduate representative on the VPFA advisory committee have prepared me to lead and represent the student body effectively. These roles allowed me to engage with peers, voice their concerns, and contribute to decision-making processes that address critical student needs.

Strong communication and advocacy skills are essential for articulating student perspectives and collaborating with stakeholders. Through my involvement in leadership and consulting roles, I have developed the ability to engage with diverse audiences, present ideas clearly, and foster constructive dialogue. This skill set enables me to effectively bridge the gap between students and university governance.

Budget management and financial literacy are also key to contributing meaningfully to governance discussions. With a concentration in finance and professional certifications such as FMVA and CMSA, I have developed a strong foundation in evaluating budgets, assessing resource allocation, and understanding cost management. This expertise aligns with my commitment to addressing financial pressures on students, including advocating for the reduction of increased tuition fees to ensure education remains accessible and affordable.

Strategic thinking and problem-solving are vital in addressing challenges and proposing practical solutions. My experience with the Sprott Student Consulting Group has allowed me to analyze organizational strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities, preparing me to contribute insights to the university’s strategic initiatives. Question 3: If elected to the Board, what would you like to gain from the experience and/or what skills would you like to further develop?

If elected as a student governor, I would gain invaluable experience and develop critical skills that will shape my personal and professional growth. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in high-level decision-making, advocate for student interests, and contribute to the strategic direction of Carleton University.

One of the most significant benefits would be gaining hands-on experience in governance and policy-making. Serving on the Board of Governors involves understanding complex institutional challenges, evaluating proposals, and contributing to key decisions that impact the university community. This experience would enhance my critical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially in navigating multifaceted issues such as budget management, strategic planning, and operational priorities.

Additionally, I would strengthen my leadership and advocacy skills by acting as a voice for the undergraduate student body. This responsibility requires effective communication, active listening, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, all of which are vital skills for any future leadership role. Engaging in board discussions with experienced professionals, faculty, and administrators would also provide valuable insights into organizational leadership and governance structures.

The role would also allow me to deepen my financial literacy and budgeting expertise. Contributing to discussions about tuition fees, resource allocation, and long-term financial planning would build my confidence in addressing complex financial matters—skills that are directly transferable to my career aspirations in finance and beyond.
