Tania Gomes’ volunteer work with the Relay for Life, a student-run fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, was one of the most gratifying experiences of the Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management (BPAPM) student’s Carleton experience.

“It was the most gruelling experience. Then the event day arrived, and over 700 students pulled an all-nighter. Cancer never sleeps and for one night neither did Carleton. That morning, seeing all the sleep-deprived and exhausted students liven up after unveiling our fundraising total (of nearly $129,000) made all the stress worth it 10 times over.”
Volunteering and Academic Excellence
Her extensive volunteer work and strong academic record led to Ms. Gomes receiving the Henry Marshall Tory Award at her recent convocation. The award is granted to a graduate who has demonstrated a high degree of academic achievement and simultaneously, indicated an interest in the university through extracurricular activities of a constructive nature.
