Carleton’s new Learning Management System (LMS), Brightspace by D2L, is now available for all instructors, staff and students. You can log in to the system at brightspace.carleton.ca using your MC1 credentials and get to know the new interface by watching short video tours for instructors and students.
There are many ways to learn and engage with Brightspace. Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) has a variety of resources, support and training to help you begin.
Register for Brightspace training
Instructor–focused Brightspace Basics workshops are posted monthly to the TLS Events page. Workshops provide a complete overview of all the basic tools involved in an initial course set up. Intermediate/Advanced workshops are also available on a variety of topics, such as assignments and rubrics, quizzes, discussions, and gradebook. Register for an upcoming session or check out recordings of past sessions on the new Brightspace Mediaspace channel. If you’re looking to explore Brightspace in a guided way, try out the Brightspace Basics Online asynchronous, self-enrollment course.
Review migrated cuLearn content or start fresh
ITS and D2L continue to migrate course content from cuLearn to Brightspace. To date, approximately 22,700 courses have been migrated. Once you log in to Brightspace, you’ll find your migrated courses under the Converted tab of the MyCourses widget—if your course is not yet available, check back soon or reach out if you have concerns. If you’re teaching this summer, course shells are available under the summer 2021 tab on your Brightspace homepage after login.
As you start to build your course, you may choose to rework migrated cuLearn content or start fresh in Brightspace. New web pages for Course Migration Resources and Course Setup Resources on the Brightspace Support Site can help with this process.
Connect with TLS for course support
If you would like to review your migrated cuLearn content or explore a fresh Brightspace course setup with the TLS team, please complete the Brightspace Consultation Request Form. We’re happy to support you in your course development!
Remember that extensive instructions and guides are also available on the Instructor Support Site, Student Support Site and TA Support Site. If you need technical support, submit your request to the TLS Support Portal or contact D2L Brightspace 24/7/365 support.
Peek inside a Brightspace course and hear from a pilot instructor
