Courses have been live in Carleton’s new Learning Management System (LMS), Brightspace by D2L, for two months. As we head into the late summer term, Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) continues to develop resources and training to support the Carleton community.
What’s New with Brightspace?
Brightspace is updated around the first or second week of each month, with no system down time. This monthly update process is called Continuous Delivery and allows for new features, security updates and bug fixes to be applied seamlessly to the LMS. Carleton is on the Wave 3 update schedule and you can visit the D2L 2021 Wave schedule to see when the next update to the system will occur.
Each month, we’ll identify the latest LMS changes and provide a short summary of the impact of the change for users on our What’s New with Brightspace? support page. We’ll share tips about how to use the latest features and provide reminders about where to get help and training.
Training and Workshops
We continue to offer a variety of Brightspace training options and workshops, ranging from the basics and specific tools to weekly drop-in support hours, where TLS support staff can answer your questions. Be on the lookout for new workshops currently under development that will take a deeper dive into Brightspace, too, including the Brightspace Communication and Collaboration workshop and Brightspace Gradebook: Part 2.
We’re also hosting the last Brightspace Showcase Panel on July 22 where you’ll have the chance to hear from fellow instructors about their experience teaching with Brightspace in the winter 2021 pilot. In the meantime, don’t forget to checkout our Brightspace Showcase Series page, where you can catch up on past events and materials.
New Resources
We’re always working on creating new resources to help support your courses. One of those new resources is a video demonstrating how students submit assignments in Brightspace. We encourage you to share this video with your students or add it to your Brightspace course page to help students navigate the new system and alleviate questions you might get regarding this process.
