Salah Sarhat and Ted Sherwood Win Paper Award at International Masonry Conference
Salah Sarhat and Ted Sherwood of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering received an Outstanding Paper Award (Honorable Mention) at the 11th North American Masonry Conference (NAMC) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, June 5-8, 2011. The paper, entitled “Shear Design of Reinforced Masonry Beams,” won in the “Masonry in Practice” category. More than 130 papers were presented at the conference, making the 11th NAMC one of the largest masonry conferences ever. The work, which represents part of the PhD thesis of Salah Sarhat, is aimed at developing an accurate, rational shear design method for reinforced masonry structures.
