Vingerhoeds awarded AWMA scholarship

Emily Vingerhoeds, an M.A.Sc. Environmental Engineering candidate at Carleton University, was awarded the $5000 Future Environmental Professional Scholarship from the Ontario Section Air & Waste Management Association. The scholarship is awarded annually to three deserving students attending Ontario’s post-secondary institutions who are pursuing programs related to engineering or sciences. It is intended to foster the furtherance of studies relating to the environment and sustainability, by striving to encourage young leaders to enter the environmental field and to stimulate professionalism. Thirty-five applicants competed for the scholarship through an application which included an essay on why you chose your field of study and how it relates to the environment, and your future endeavours upon completion of your studies. From the 35 applicants, five finalists — from Ryerson University, Trent University, University of Toronto, Humber College, and Carleton University — were selected to travel to Toronto to present at the February 2011 Board Meeting. The AWMA Ontario Section Board then chose the three scholarship winners based on the presentations.
