PhD student Daliri wins Michael Bozozuk Award
Farzad Daliri won the Annual Ottawa Geotechnical Group Michael Bozozuk Student Forum – this is an annual competition between graduate students in Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering at the University of Ottawa, Royal Military College, Queen’s, and Carleton. This is the second year in a row Carleton has won the competition. Farzad is completing his PhD under the supervision of Professors Paul Simms and Siva Sivathayalan in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His research is on the use of natural drying to improve the geotechnical stability of mine tailings impoundments. This topic is of vital interest to professionals in the conventional and oil sands mining industries, who are striving to minimize the environmental footprint of their tailings facilities. One of Farzad’s recent conference papers on the same subject was the most downloaded paper from the conference website.
