Arazoo Patel wins the 47th Annual Michael Bozozuk Student Forum competition

Arazoo Patel

Arazoo Patel, a Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Dr. Paul Simms, won the 47th Annual Michael Bozozuk graduate student presentation competition. The competition is held annually among geotechnical and geo-environmental students representing Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Queen’s University, and the Royal Military College (RMC).

She aims to advance the fundamental knowledge on time-dependent ageing effects in soft soils and clayey tailings. Her findings will significantly contribute to modify the conventional consolidation models for the accurate prediction of the long-term settlement and strength gain behaviour of tailings deposits, which is very important for the successful management and reclamation of clayey tailings deposits.

The award ceremony will be held at the end of May 2023 by Ottawa Geotechnical Group (OGG), a local chapter of the Canadian Geotechnical Society (CGS) and she will also receive funding to attend the national conference of the CGS.
